Locatelli was founded in the 1980s by Maurizio Locatelli, who ran the company as a sole proprietorship until the end of September 2004.

On October 1, 2004, the company was taken over by his son Fabio Locatelli, who now runs it as a limited liability company (S.à.r.l.).
